Homegrown Alaskan Takes Big Action for the Climate

Kelsey Skaggs grew up in Juneau. Now she’s the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Climate Defense Project.

Join us at KTOO studios on Saturday, August 19th to hear about her work and ask questions.

Having studied International Relations at UC Davis and law at Harvard Law School, Kelsey is putting her skills to good use! She and two of her classmates founded the CPD because the climate movement needs climate lawyers.

One in six Americans report that they would be willing to engage in nonviolent civil disobedience to combat climate change, but many of them lack access to reliable legal support. The movement to respond to climate change needs a movement-based model of climate lawyering. CDP provides innovative legal arguments and comprehensive legal support for climate activists.

Climate Defense Project fills a gap in the legal landscape by supporting front-line activists, pursuing climate impact litigation, and connecting attorneys with communities and campaigns.
